This mutilated contemporary albumen print, the only known original, is shown pasted inseparably onto a page of the sketchbook kept by Francis Carpenter, the portrait painter, for whom the lost original negative was made by Anthony [[Berger]] at Mathew [[Brady]]'s gallery, in [[Washington]], DC, April 20, 1864.
